Letter Led by Senators Schatz and Wicker Adds to Growing Momentum for Congress to Safeguard Access to Virtual Care

Washington, D.C – Telehealth Access for America (TAFA) issued the following statement after 35 U.S. Senators and nine members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Roger Wicker (R-MS), sent a letter to congressional leadership Friday calling for the extension of flexibilities in the continuing resolution, which is set to expire on February 18.

“We commend Senator Schatz, Senator Wicker, and the co-signers of this letter for calling attention to the urgent need for action to protect telehealth access for the millions of patients who have come to rely on virtual care during the pandemic,” said TAFA spokesperson Julia Mirich. “As the letter states, extended telehealth flexibilities will allow for continued virtual care investment and help ensure patients in every community are able to receive the care they need.”

“We applaud the co-signers of this letter for demonstrating their understanding of the vital role played by telehealth in building a stronger and more equitable health care system. Congress must act to avert the telehealth cliff and then build on the positive momentum for action with permanent reforms to safeguard access to virtual care,” continued Mirich.
