TAFA Statement on Reports of Short-Term Extension of Medicare Telehealth Flexibilities

Campaign Calls for a Minimum Two-Year Extension and Permanent Solution

Washington, D.C – Telehealth Access for America (TAFA) issued the following statement Friday in response to reports of a potential short-term extension of current Medicare telehealth flexibilities.

“Patients, providers, and lawmakers from both parties overwhelmingly support extending critical telehealth flexibilities without unnecessary restrictions,” said TAFA executive director Alye Mlinar.

“While we ultimately hope Congress makes Medicare telehealth flexibilities permanent, patients and providers need an extension of at least two years now. This will help provide certainty and unlock telehealth’s full potential for the millions of patients that depend on virtual care and these flexibilities. With less than 40 days until current protections expire, patients need certainty – We urge Congress to act,” Mlinar concluded.
